NC Growing Rural Economic with Access to Technology (GREAT) Grant 


In May 2023, the Moore County Board of Commissioners approved the Chairman to proceed with the Growing Rural Economies and Access to Technology Agreement (GREAT Grant) Round 1 funding.  This Grant serves 3,345 underserved households in the County of Moore.  The award was with the internet service provider Connect Holding II, LLC (Brightspeed).  The total amount of the project cost is $9,421,502.  The grant amount will be $4,000,000 from the State, Connect Holding II, LLC (Brightspeed) will contribute $4,921,502 and the County will match $500,000 using the County’s American Rescue Plan funds (ARPA).  In June 2023, a Progress Report was received from NCDIT confirming efforts were in progress with the high-level engineering & design work being in process per the Round 1 agreement.  

In July 2023, the County was notified available funds for Round 2 of the GREAT Grant Award. The award for Round 2 funding is with the internet service provider Charter Communications (Spectrum). The Grant would serve an additional 1459 underserved households in the County of Moore.  The total project cost is $8,220,633.  At the October 17, 2023, Board of Commissioners meeting the Board approved County Administration to proceed with entering Round 2 of the GREAT Grant.
