Prepare now and plan to stay home and off the roads this weekend
It is important that all North Carolinians finish preparations by Friday evening. How can you prepare?
- Be Informed
- Follow reputable sources of information like local media, the National Weather Service, and your local emergency management agency.
- Visit ReadyNC.Gov for information on how you can prepare for this winter storm and to access links and resources.
- Have a Plan
- How will you safely heat your home if the power goes out?
- Where will you go if you cannot stay at home?
- How will you cook safely if the power is out?
- Practice safety when using a generator or a space heater.
- Have your Disaster Kit ready to go.
- 1 Gallon of water per person in your household for 3-7 days.
- Enough non-perishable foods for each member of your household.
- Pet supplies and food. - Flashlights - Extra batteries
- Cell phone charging supplies - AM/FM weather radio
- Winter weather clothing - Blankets
- Fire Extinguisher - First Aid Kit
- You need to plan to stay home and off the roads this weekend.
- NC DOT crews and first responders should be given priority on the roadway. Help them, help us and stay home. Starting Saturday morning, Plan to stay home and off the roads until at least Monday
- Stranded vehicles may be left on the side of the road and marked with a piece of yellow caution tape. If you see a vehicle with yellow caution tape on the mirror or wrapping the vehicle, it has been checked by first responders, and it is not an emergency.

The Moore County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously to increase the Room Occupancy Tax Rate from the current rate support enhanced tourism promotion efforts, benefiting the community and its businesses. Thank you for your cooperation and continued commitment to supporting Moore County's thriving tourism industry. Your partnership is invaluable to our community's growth and success. Attachments/Documents : RO of 3% to a new rate of 6%, effective January 1, 2026. This increase will be effective for all bookings on or after January 1, 2026. All accommodations must apply the new tax rate to any bookings for stays beginning January 1, 2026, or later, regardless of the booking date. The County also approved a new Room Occupancy Tax Report. The new form is available on this website by choosing the Financial Services tab and then forms from the home page.
The change to the Room Occupancy Tax Rate has been made to support enhanced tourism promotion efforts, benefiting the community and its businesses. The Moore County Board of Commissioners has revised the FY26 Regular Meeting Schedule to reschedule the 10:30am Regular Meetings to 5:30pm, such that all Regular Meetings will begin at 5:30pm, beginning with the Board’s October 7, 2025, Regular Meeting. The FY26 Regular Meeting Schedule will otherwise remain as adopted on April 15, 2025. For more information, contact the Clerk at 910-947-6403 or jparks@moorecountync.gov.
