Sheriff's Office
Mission
The Mission of the Moore County Sheriff's Office is to provide the highest level of Law Enforcement service to the citizens of Moore County. We will accomplish our mission through outstanding leadership, sound community partnerships, and effective resource management.
Updates
- We conduct LiveScan fingerprints for Moore County residents and those who work in Moore County only. For more information visit the Services page or call us at 910-947-2931.
- Scam Alert: Sheriff Ronnie Fields warns citizens of fraudulent threatening phone calls. The following are the two most common that are reported.
- Jury Duty: Citizens are contacted and told they are speaking with a member of the MCSO. The callers go as far as giving a badge number and citizens are told they have pending charges for missing jury duty and a warrant is out for their arrest. To avoid arrest warrants, they are instructed to get pre-paid debit cards and give personal information.
- Social Security Administration Robocalls:Scammers use phone calls, emails, text messages, and letters to impersonate Social Security personnel and trick people into giving up personal information. Common tactics include asking for your Social Security number and threatening to cut off Social Security benefits if personal information isn't provided.
- Both scams are designed to trick you. Here are a few ways to keep your information safe.
- Law enforcement agencies will never demand money from a citizen to avoid arrest.
- Know your social security number is not going to be suspended.
- The Social Security Administration will never call and ask you for your number.
- Whatever you do, do not confirm/give the last four digits of your social security number to anyone who calls.
- Remember, if someone asks you to wire money, pay with a gift card, or send cash, that person is a scammer, which is a sign to hang up before you become a victim of identity theft.
- If you are ever in doubt, hang up and call the Moore County Sheriff's Office at 910-947-2931 with any questions or concerns.

Handgun Purchase Permit Application - Law Repeal Per Senate Bill 41
Note: As of Wednesday, March 29, 2023, pistol purchase permits will no longer be issued by any sheriff in North Carolina. The Moore County Sheriff's Office has stopped processing pistol purchase permit applications including pending applications.
The law regarding the issuance of pistol purchase permits by sheriffs in North Carolina has been repealed as of March 29, 2023. Any person seeking to purchase or transfer a handgun in NC is no longer required to apply with the Sheriff's Office.
Any person seeking to purchase a handgun through a firearms dealer will undergo the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) criminal background check required under current law and either be sold the handgun or denied sale if a criminal history search indicates the person is disqualified from possessing a firearm. For private transfers of handguns, while no National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) criminal background check is required under current law prior to making a private transfer, criminal penalties still apply to any person that knowingly transfers a handgun to a person who may not lawfully possess the firearm.
